What is VEU Program

The VEU project was initiated by the government a few years ago. The sole idea of this project was to see all households in the state of VIC receive a free LED lighting upgrade. The government so far has been providing zero cost LED upgrade to all residential households under this program. The project was rolled out across the state of VIC covering the metro, regional and country areas. This project is part of the Government's commitment to reduce emissions and save energy. A residential household can save between $120 and $1,100 on their energy bills on an average depending on the type and amount of upgrade/s.

LED lighting is more energy efficient than traditional incandescent bulbs, and has a longer lifespan. It is also more environmentally friendly, as it does not contain mercury. Every Victorian household is eligible to participate in the program and avail the incentive of getting free quality and energy efficient LED lighting products and services. This is a great opportunity to take advantage of free LED lighting.

What is the LED upgrade program in VIC

Lights are the biggest source of energy consumption in every household. Other home appliances also consume energy, but are not easy to replace as they are involve huge costs. Eg: television, washing machine, refrigerator etc. But switching the old lights to new LED lights is very easy and cost effective.

Upgrading to LED lights also improves the overall ambiance of the house. LED lights also reduce carbon footprint in the environment. Under the VEU (Victorian Energy Upgrade) program run by the Victorian government, upgrading to LED lights from old incandescent and halogen lights is totally free.

Every household whether home owners or tenants can take part in this program. Taking part in this program is voluntary. It is your choice if you want to upgrade your lights or not, however the government recommends the upgrade.

Who controls the VEU program

The Essential Services Commission (ESC) regulates the VEU program, participants, eligible products and the creation of Victorian energy efficiency certificates (VEECs).

According to the program officials, in the last 10 years, the program has generated more than 50 million energy efficiency certificates (VEECs) which equals to 50 million tonnes of greenhouse gas emmission stopped from entering into the atmosphere.

Is it mandatory to upgrade the lights

No, taking part in the VEU program is voluntary. Every household whether home owners or tenants are eligible to take part in the program. It is your choice if you want to upgrade your lights or not, however the government recommends the upgrade.

Is upgrading to LED free

Yes, upgrading to LED is free under the VEU program long as you are swapping your old CFL, incandescent or halogen bulbs with new LED bulbs and the upgrade activity is carried out by either an Accredited Professional or a company authorised as a subcontractor by an Accredited Professional.

Process involved in VEU program

1. Victorian households are offered energy-efficient products and upgrades by VEU
2. Households get a free LED upgrade by the APs or their representatives
3. Accredited providers generate Victorian Energy Efficiency Certificates (VEECs)
4. Each certificate represents one tonne of greenhouse gas
5. Energy retailers then buy these VEECS from the APs and submit to the government

How do I participate in the VEU program

In order to receive a free lighting upgrade in your household, all you need is to get in touch with an ESC approved LED lighting installer. We are the authorised representatives of an experienced and top of the line LED installer who is approved by ESC and performs major residential and commercial lighting upgrades in Victoria under the VEU program.

We do the complete documentation on your behalf to ensure your successful participation in the program. We also take care of the decommissioning of removed products from your household.
